What is now the Uvex Group began almost 100 years ago as a small business called Optische-Industrie-Anstalt Philipp M. Winter. Back then it was already making protective eyewear both for industry and for skiing and mountaineering. The Uvex brand only came into existence in 1964, after which it quickly became synonymous with sports eyewear. Today Uvex is a global concern. Yet the company's headquarters and the majority of production are still based at Fürth, in northern Bavaria, where the company first began.
By the way: All Uvex sports eyewear provides hundred percent protection from harmful UV radiation, regardless of the level of tinting, hence the name: UV-ex.
